Lips, situated in the lower facial compartment, significantly contribute to an individual's distinct facial features. Each patient's lips are evaluated uniquely, and decisions are made based on their needs. Some may require volumizing, others reshaping, or a combination of both.

Different types of lip augmentations yield varied aesthetic results. For naturally attractive and fresh-looking lips, it's essential to consider the mouth region as a whole rather than focusing solely on the lips' body. Hyaluronic acid fillers, preferred for this facial area, can be easily molded and possess hydrophilic properties that attract water molecules, hydrating the lips.

Lip filler treatments are primarily used for:

• Augmentation and volumizing of lips

• Smoothing vertical lip lines, also known as "Smokers' Lines"

• Elevating the downturn of oral commissures (corners of the mouth)

• Rejuvenation and reshaping

a) Volumizing/Augmenting:

Patients' lips may be naturally small due to genetics or appear smaller from age-related tissue loss, which also causes the nasolabial region to sink in and turn the lips inward. Various filler sizes can be used to volumize lips. Each patient is assessed for lip margin, outlining the lips, and for volume loss to enhance augmentation, rejuvenation, and symmetry.

b) Smoothing Vertical Lip Lines:

Our lips are in constant use throughout the day for talking, eating, kissing, and sometimes smoking. These actions lead to the formation of fine lines and cracks along the vermilion border. These cracks deepen with age and factors like excessive sun exposure, dehydration, and volume loss, contributing to an aged appearance. Hyaluronic acid fillers smooth out these lines and hydrate the lips for a rejuvenated look.

c) Elevating Oral Commissures:

As one ages, the corners of the mouth may turn downwards, a trait often believed to be genetically predisposed. Volume loss in the chin and lower face causes this downturn, imparting a sad or angry expression. Filler injections near the mouth corners can lift this area, alleviating the stern appearance, often combined with lip augmentation for an improved aesthetic outcome.

d) Reshaping and Rejuvenation:

Lip fillers are used not only for cosmetic enhancement but also for addressing dehydration of the lips, filling in cracks that extend into the nasolabial and chin regions. The hyaluronic acid in fillers absorbs water, supporting lip tissue for shiny, attractive lips and a youthful appearance. While there are various lip filler styles, such as Russian or Brazilian lips, not every style suits each individual, which is why we tailor the design and reshape the lips for the best overall facial aesthetic.

Chin and Jaw Fillers - Marionette Lines
Duration 25-35 min
Pain Topical Anesthesia
Recovery Immediate
Longetivity of results 12-15 months

Marionette lines, also known as drool lines, are the grooves that extend downward from the corners of the mouth to the sides of the chin. These lines become noticeable in one’s mid-20s and intensify in their 40s, often due to volume loss in the prejowl region, creating a sad, tired, and aged facial appearance.

The mouth area, which is frequently used for talking, eating, smiling, and other expressions, is susceptible to elasticity and firmness loss in the prejowl area due to highly active mouth muscles. The depressors of the mouth, when too active, contribute to the downturn of the mouth. Additional factors such as volumetric loss in chin soft tissues and the decreased production of proteins like elastin, collagen, and naturally occurring hyaluronic acid exacerbate the deepening of marionette lines. Diminished support from these proteins, coupled with sun exposure and smoking, leads to drooping or sagging skin in this region, accelerating the development of an aged facial appearance.

The aged look characterized by apparent marionette lines can be mitigated with the use of hyaluronic acid fillers. The filler is strategically placed under the skin to smooth out these lines and added to areas of volume loss to restore plumpness and a youthful appearance. Utilizing hyaluronic acid can transform these undesirable marionette grooves into more complete skin that blends into the upper face, providing a rejuvenated appearance. For enhanced aesthetic results, this treatment may be combined with other procedures such as Botox and mesotherapy treatments.

Mental Crease
Duration 25-35 min
Pain Topical Anesthesia
Recovery Immediate
Longetivity of results 9-15 months

The mental crease is a horizontal groove that appears between the lower lip and the chin. This line becomes more pronounced with the ageing process as the levels of structural proteins such as collagen and elastin decrease. Additionally, the continuous contraction of the mentalis muscle of the chin can worsen the condition of the mental crease, giving the chin a concave appearance.

In some individuals, the mental crease is naturally deep, suggesting a genetic predisposition. For others, a deep mental crease may result from the positioning of the jaw and teeth. Frequent pouting and use of facial muscles can deepen these grooves, leading to a more pronounced mental crease.

Dermal fillers are used to soften and elevate the mental crease by being injected directly beneath the groove. For enhanced results, this treatment can be paired with botox injections to relax the chin muscle, flattening the crease further and providing longer-lasting and natural-looking results.

Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure designed to refine, lengthen, enhance, and shape the chin to create a more attractive facial profile. A well-defined chin structure allows for a more balanced face with better contour, which is a sought-after standard in cosmetic medicine. This procedure is particularly popular with patients who have a recessed chin or a prematurely aged lower facial region that requires structural support and definition.

There are several treatment options available in aesthetic medicine for chin augmentation, including chin implants, bone modifications, and non-invasive dermal filler injections. While chin implants provide a permanent solution for a weak and undefined chin, the increased risk of infection and potential displacement of implants make non-surgical dermal filler procedures a more favourable choice for many.

Dermal fillers are often preferred for patients with the following considerations:

• Minor volume enhancement and augmentation needs

• Individuals with a cleft chin seeking a smoother central chin contour

• Older patients who are not suitable candidates for surgery

• Those seeking immediate results who are apprehensive about implants

• Patients looking to avoid the higher costs and downtime associated with surgery

Dermal fillers, particularly those containing hyaluronic acid, are injectable substances that can be artfully shaped to creatively augment the chin. These fillers enable aesthetic professionals to volumize weak chins, correct dimpled chins, and smooth out asymmetries, achieving the most natural-looking chin enhancement possible. However, it is important to note that dermal fillers are metabolized by the body over time, so the results are not permanent. Regular maintenance treatments are necessary to sustain the cosmetic outcome.

Jawline Rejuvenation
Duration 35-45 min
Pain Topical Anesthesia

Longetivity of results 12-18 months

Jawline rejuvenation is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure aimed at refining the angle of the jaw region for a more defined facial appearance. Dermal fillers are applied either directly onto the bone or beneath the skin to redefine the jaw's contour, which may have been blurred due to the sagging of the midface, contributing to the formation of jowls.

A sagging midface can cause a concave appearance in the anterior jowl region, altering the once well-angled and defined jawline. Injecting hyaluronic acid fillers into this concave area lifts the jowl region, allowing for a rejuvenated, youthful look.

Fillers placed along the jawline sharpen the angle, providing a subtle lift to the neck area as well. This delineation between the jaw and neck achieved through dermal fillers gives patients a more prominent and characteristic facial structure.

The procedure can be tailored to either masculinize or feminize the face, depending on the patient's goals. For male patients, a more squared and sharply angled jaw can be sculpted to create a masculine facial character, while a V-shaped contour is preferred for feminization in female patients.

With the assistance of fillers, asymmetries in the jaw region can be corrected, sagging skin can be supported, a more defined border created, and deep wrinkles or creases can be smoothed out, offering patients a slimmer and more youthful appearance.
